ABOUT ME
My counseling journey began while listening the mothers birthing stories and observing their interactions with their little ones while I was a research assistant at a language development lab during my undergraduate at Duke University. I became interested in how and what the mothers shared in their stories and their subsequent relationships with their babies. I was curious about how these mothers used their internal external resources to overcome their struggles during the birthing and postpartum period. My theoretical orientation is an integration of positive psychology and strengths-based counseling as well as having a multicultural approach to the counseling relationship. I believe focusing on client’s values and strengths can help them to not only reach better daily functioning but to flourish as well. I have also spent the last almost ten years as a systems building professional, which has provided me unique insight into how an individual client’s choices and their interactions with the systems they encounter can greatly shape their mental health status.
