According to recent studies, a significant portion of college students experience anxiety, with statistics showing around 37% reporting anxiety symptoms, making it one of the most prevalent mental health issues on college campuses. Two out of five students struggle with anxiety. According to the CDC, 18.4% of US adults reported having been diagnosed with depression in 2020. More than half of individuals who have anxiety suffer from depression as well (adaa.org).

  • Prevalence: Around 37% of college students report experiencing anxiety symptoms, according to the Healthy Minds Study. 44% of college students reported symptoms of depression.
  • Impact on academics: A large portion of students with anxiety report that it negatively affects their performance in class.
  • Increased during transition: The first year of college is often a particularly high-risk period for the onset or worsening of anxiety.
  • Factors contributing to anxiety: Academic pressure, social adjustments, financial concerns, and the stress of navigating a new environment are contributing factors to anxiety in college students.
